Our International Service Committee organized a high tea event on Sunday, June 14 complete with live entertainment and tasty treats. In total, we raised $2,000 for a medical clinic in Ndola, Zambia! Thank you to everyone who supported us – especially the Rotary Clubs of Port Coquitlam Centennial, Central City, Port Moody, and our friends from the District 5050 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.Â
Pictures from our photobooth are available on our Facebook page.
We were in the Tri-City News again! Our latest feature, found on page 36 of the November 12 edition, highlighted some of our events and projects over the past year.
Vancouver-based band Pigeon Park were among the performers at our benefit concert to raise money for an orphanage in Uganda.
March 20, 2014 marked one of the largest events our club has held thus far! Our “A Night with the Stars” benefit concert, held at Inlet Theatre in Port Moody, was a fundraiser for Jaaja Barb’s Home of Angels Orphanage in Mpumudde, Uganda. The orphanage, started by B.C. native Barb Giraud, protects orphans living with HIV/AIDS in acute poverty.
The night featured plenty of local talent including acoustic singers, bands, and dance crews, and featured plenty of free food and prizes. In the end, we were able to raise $4,025.41Â for Jaaja Barb’s Home of Angels! Thank you to all of our guests and sponsors who made the event our most successful one yet.
Our first major event of 2014 was a Great Gatsby themed fundraiser held at Old Mill Boathouse in Port Moody on January 11. Featuring a live DJ, cash bar, tons of food, and a photobooth, our guests enjoyed a fantastic night in a beautiful venue (and looked great themselves in their 1920’s-inspired costumes). In total, we raised over $750Â to be donated to our current international service project: a bus for St. Dymphna’s Special Needs School in Tanzania.
Thank you to all of our friends and supporters who made our first fundraiser of 2014 a night to remember!

You may also be interested in learning about our previous fundraiser for St. Dymphna’s: a Hawaiian-inspired luau in 2013.
Led by Chantal from the International Service Committee, we organized a Hawaiian luau-themed fundraiser for St. Dymphna’s Special Needs School in Arusha, Tanzania on September 7, 2013. Currently, the school does not have a bus to transport many of their students to school. As a result, many children who are most in need of an education are missing out on a chance to learn, socialize and receive meals from St. Dymphna’s. We were able to raise over $700 through the luau and all proceeds will be donated directly to the school. Thanks to everyone who came out for the night; we hope you all had a great time!

Once again, a group of girls from the Tri-Cities Rotaract helped out one of our sponsoring Rotarians, Vida, with “Days for Girls” this month on August 1. We’re excited to have the opportunity to participate in this cause on a regular basis!
Port Moody Rotarian Vida Peterson graciously invited the girls of the Tri-Cities Rotaract to her home on June 11 to pack supplies for “Days for Girls”, an initiative to send feminine hygiene products to girls in developing countries so that they are able to attend school and live normal lives. It was a wonderful experience and we hope to stay involved with this project in the future!
We had the pleasure today of once again participating in a container loading project with Rotary Clubs from throughout the area. This time around, the container was bound for South Africa and held various items including beds, printers, photocopiers and even pianos! The full set of photos can be found here.
Another article about us was in the Tri-City News today! Thank you to Kim, Eli, Emi and Janelle for representing us and speaking about how we got started.
