Our International Service Committee organized a high tea event on Sunday, June 14 complete with live entertainment and tasty treats. In total, we raised $2,000 for a medical clinic in Ndola, Zambia! Thank you to everyone who supported us – especially the Rotary Clubs of Port Coquitlam Centennial, Central City, Port Moody, and our friends from the District 5050 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.
Who doesn’t love a good game of dodgeball – especially when it’s to support a fantastic local cause? Our Community Service committee hosted a Dodgeball Tournament at Pitt River Middle School on Friday, May 8 to help raise money for Tri-Cities KidSport, so that all children in the Tri-Cities can enjoy the fun and benefits of organized sports.
Overall, nearly 100 participants came together to raise a grand total of $1,168.36 for the cause! Thank you to all of our players for coming out and supporting us #SoAllKidsCanPlay!

March 20, 2014 marked one of the largest events our club has held thus far! Our “A Night with the Stars” benefit concert, held at Inlet Theatre in Port Moody, was a fundraiser for Jaaja Barb’s Home of Angels Orphanage in Mpumudde, Uganda. The orphanage, started by B.C. native Barb Giraud, protects orphans living with HIV/AIDS in acute poverty.
The night featured plenty of local talent including acoustic singers, bands, and dance crews, and featured plenty of free food and prizes. In the end, we were able to raise $4,025.41 for Jaaja Barb’s Home of Angels! Thank you to all of our guests and sponsors who made the event our most successful one yet.
Our first major event of 2014 was a Great Gatsby themed fundraiser held at Old Mill Boathouse in Port Moody on January 11. Featuring a live DJ, cash bar, tons of food, and a photobooth, our guests enjoyed a fantastic night in a beautiful venue (and looked great themselves in their 1920’s-inspired costumes). In total, we raised over $750 to be donated to our current international service project: a bus for St. Dymphna’s Special Needs School in Tanzania.
Thank you to all of our friends and supporters who made our first fundraiser of 2014 a night to remember!
In the spirit of the Holiday season, the Tri-Cities Rotaract is selling tickets for “Unwrapped! A Charitable Night of Shopping” at Coquitlam Centre Mall on Tuesday, November 26 from 7-10:30PM. With over $16,000 in prizes to be won and lots of special deals and offers, it’s a night you do not want to miss!
Tickets are available for $10 from any Rotaract member or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. All proceeds from our ticket sales will go towards two of our upcoming projects: creating a Christmas hamper for a family in need, and a gift to the seniors at Hawthorne Manor.
Led by Chantal from the International Service Committee, we organized a Hawaiian luau-themed fundraiser for St. Dymphna’s Special Needs School in Arusha, Tanzania on September 7, 2013. Currently, the school does not have a bus to transport many of their students to school. As a result, many children who are most in need of an education are missing out on a chance to learn, socialize and receive meals from St. Dymphna’s. We were able to raise over $700 through the luau and all proceeds will be donated directly to the school. Thanks to everyone who came out for the night; we hope you all had a great time!
Our first-ever pub night event at Port Coquitlam’s Cat and Fiddle Pub on Friday, July 5 was a fantastic success, with the event being a complete sell-out! Thank you to everyone who supported us that evening – your donations will make a difference both in our community and around the world!
