Who doesn’t love a good game of dodgeball – especially when it’s to support a fantastic local cause? Our Community Service committee hosted a Dodgeball Tournament at Pitt River Middle School on Friday, May 8 to help raise money for Tri-Cities KidSport, so that all children in the Tri-Cities can enjoy the fun and benefits of organized sports.
Overall, nearly 100 participants came together to raise a grand total of $1,168.36 for the cause! Thank you to all of our players for coming out and supporting us #SoAllKidsCanPlay!
Once again this year, our club endeavored to help out a local family in need this Christmas season by putting together a hamper filled with groceries and gifts. We’d like to thank Safeway at Sunwood Square in Coquitlam, and Thrifty Foods at Suter Brook in Port Moody, for their donations as well as the many parents within our club who contributed too.
Around this time every year, our Social Committee puts together a holiday party for our club members to unwind and celebrate our accomplishments from the past year. This year, our social’s theme was “Minute to Win It” and we were split up into teams to participate in various activities throughout the evening. We also had a blind gift exchange with recycled gifts. Thanks to our “Social Sisters”, Chantal and Nicole, for organizing this fun event!
We spent our Sunday afternoon this past weekend helping out our sponsor club, the Rotary Club of Port Moody, with their annual Christmas Tea service at Eagle Ridge Manor. This is always a fun service opportunity to kick off the Christmas season and spread holiday cheer to the wonderful residents at the manor.

A few of our members had the opportunity to serve as Facilitators at the first-ever Ridge Meadows Youth Impact Summit from November 28-30, 2014. This 3-day program, based off a model of other Rotary Youth Leadership programs in our district including RYLA and YAIL, aimed to inspire students in grades 10-12 in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to make an impact in the community and the world around them. From professional speakers to challenging leadership activities and conquering fears, the weekend concluded with the students delivering a short “Legacy Presentation” about changes they’d like to see in the community to city councilors and school board trustees.
This was an incredible event that we were very honored to be able to take part of. It was wonderful to see the leadership potential grow in so many youth, and we can’t wait for RMYIS 2015! Special thanks to the RMYIS committee for making this weekend happen.
Want a quick way to find out what our club has been up to recently? Introducing our #RotaractRecap video series, where our members will share our latest and upcoming events and projects in a short, monthly video.

Members of our club spent the afternoon of Saturday, March 22 visiting with seniors at Hawthorne Centre in Port Coquitlam. In addition to serving tea and snacks, we also made them cards to ring in the spring season, and our very own Jessica entertained them by playing the violin. Thank you to Chris M., Kevin, Brianne and Rasmeet for also volunteering their time!
