We spent our Sunday afternoon this past weekend helping out our sponsor club, the  Rotary Club of Port Moody, with their annual Christmas Tea service at Eagle Ridge Manor. This is always a fun service opportunity to kick off the Christmas season and spread holiday cheer to the wonderful residents at the manor.
Check out more photos from this event on Facebook.
Want a quick way to find out what our club has been up to recently? Introducing our #RotaractRecap video series, where our members will share our latest and upcoming events and projects in a short, monthly video.

CAT & FIDDLE PUB (1979 Brown Street, Port Coquitlam) TICKETS: $15.00Â (includes burger and beverage)
Back by popular demand is our second annual pub night fundraiser at the Cat and Fiddle Pub in Port Coquitlam. Once again, for $15 you can enjoy your choice of burger (beef, chicken, or veggie) and beverage (highball, beer, or wine). Proceeds will support our club’s service initiatives for the upcoming year, both in the local community and abroad.
There will also be hosting a 50/50 draw with proceeds supporting Kidsport BC! We are looking forward to spending an evening with everyone!
Kevin, Chris M., Janelle & Amber giving out free hot chocolate at the SFU Burnaby campus.
Doing good in the community doesn’t always have to take hours of planning and effort. In line with our Random Acts of Kindness, on February 18 our members took to the Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus to give out free hot chocolate in the Academic Quadrangle. We hope that we were able to warm up some students on a cold and blistery day!
After the success of the event last year, on Halloween this year we once again collected nonperishable food items from neighborhoods in Port Moody to support local food banks. Just an hour and a half of collection with our group of volunteers led to over 400 items of food being collected for SHARE Family & Community Services. Thank you to our team of volunteers: Ryan, Danielle, John, Adam, Kim, Chantal, Jordan, Janelle, Emi, Kevin, Nicole, and Chris!
Update:Â We’re happy to finally report the total from this year’s We Scare Hunger can drive in the Tri-Cities: 537 lbs! This improvement over last year’s amount of 512.5 lbs would not have been possible without all of our awesome volunteers and the generous donations of Tri-Cities residents.
Check out more photos from this year’s event on our Facebook page.

Once again, a group of girls from the Tri-Cities Rotaract helped out one of our sponsoring Rotarians, Vida, with “Days for Girls” this month on August 1. We’re excited to have the opportunity to participate in this cause on a regular basis!
Port Moody Rotarian Vida Peterson graciously invited the girls of the Tri-Cities Rotaract to her home on June 11 to pack supplies for “Days for Girls”, an initiative to send feminine hygiene products to girls in developing countries so that they are able to attend school and live normal lives. It was a wonderful experience and we hope to stay involved with this project in the future!
Valentine’s Day marks the start of our new initiative to do random, small acts of kindness for people in our local communities. We’re starting it off by anonymously delivering small bags of chocolates for Valentine’s Day to local businesses and city departments. Each bag of chocolates also contains a card asking the recipient to do a simple, kind deed for someone else. We hope to see these cards circulating in the community and for some Random Acts of Kindness to be taking place in the Tri-Cities!
If you received one of our cards and bags of chocolate, please pay it forward, then visit our Random Acts of Kindness Wall and let us know!
We have just recently started a weekly reading buddies program with a grade 1 and 2 class at Bramblewood Elementary School in Coquitlam. Helping the kids with their reading skills is extremely rewarding, and they seem to be enjoying it too!
Since November 2012 we have been regularly hosting a free dinner for the less fortunate in the Tri-Cities every month. Previous menu items have included perogies, chilli, and rice krispie squares made by our very own members! In addition to cooking up the food we also host and serve everything ourselves. We look forward to hosting many more of these in the future!
